Planned Giving: The Basics

Planned giving today isn’t only for the large nonprofits that can afford to hire financial and legal specialists. Many small and medium-sized nonprofits are launching successful gift planning programs or expanding their informal efforts because of the tremendous value it can bring to their organization.

Planned Giving: The Basics is an all-day program focusing on the nuts and bolts of gift planning. This interactive, practical training is designed to provide simple, specific ideas to help you start or enhance a planned giving program. The agenda includes:

  • Overview of gift planning
  • Specific gift planning vehicles and how they work
  • Discussions on legacy societies, endowments, donor visits, and blended gifts
  • Finding the planned giving donor
  • Marketing 101
  • Accepting a bequest
  • Examples, stories, and Q&A opportunities that will help get you started!
  • Lunch will be included

The program is team taught by:

Marianne B. Barker, CSPG – Assistant Vice President, Gift Planning at Colorado School of Mines Foundation

Katy Herbert KotlarczykDepartment Head and Senior Director of Gift Planning and Leadership Giving at the University of Colorado

Gordon Smith Associate Vice President of Development, Planned Giving at National Jewish Health

Josie Stewart Gift Planning Manager at the Denver Zoological Foundation
